The Bike to School Program supported by Clean Energy Nepal was conducted by Cycle City Network Nepal in a collaboration with Lions Clubs of Kathmandu Cycle City. The program consisted of a training session and workshop for the middle school students to inform them about the burning issue of air pollution in Kathmandu. Through these sessions students were provided information on the current global and local status of air pollution. Information on the initiatives and innovative ideas that are being practiced in the context of Nepal were also provided. The program was conducted in four different schools of Kathmandu Valley. It was found that the topic of air pollution wasn't discussed in much detail in the national curriculum and there was only surface knowledge in this regard. So students were provided with deeper knowledge regarding the clean air and pollution. Since 14% of the total air pollution is from the transportation sector, students were provided with bicycles as an alternative means of transportation to curb air pollution. The later part of the workshop consisted of the necessary skills and training on bicycle, its benefits and safety knowledge to commute via bicycle. Students internalized the knowledge provided and were motivated to ride bicycles. The overall achievement of the program was the change in the perception of the students riding bicycles as being environmentally conscious and adopting a green lifestyle.
